DIY Pool & Spa Leak Tests

1. Bucket Test

The best way to determine if your pool or spa is losing water is to conduct a simple bucket test.

To conduct a bucket test in your pool or spa:

  1. Find a five gallon bucket
  2. Fill it 3/4 of the way full of water
  3. Place the bucket on the top step of your pool or spa
  4. Using a crayon, mark a line at the water level on the inside of the bucket
  5. Additionally, mark the water level of the pool on the outside of the bucket
  6. Wait 24 hours
  7. After 24 has passed, mark both water levels on the inside and outside of the bucket
  8. Measure the distance between the initial and final water levels.

The distance between the marks inside the bucket gives you the water lost by evaporation. If the marks on the outside of the bucket are farther apart than the inside of the bucket, that means that your pool or spa lost water separately from evaporation. This is the largest indicator of a pool or spa leak that we typically find.

If you conduct a bucket test and find that you lost more water on the outside of the bucket, our leak detection services can help you find your pool or spa leaks quickly and easily.

2. Water Leveler Running

If you notice your water leveler is running constantly, this is often an indication that your pool or spa is leaking water. These leaks can be hard to find on your own, but our leak detection services can find leaks in pools and spas so you don't have to worry
